Solving complex problems in society is possible only through a transdisciplinary approach

Harmonious integration of diverse disciplines within one creative space to create new knowledge

Creating a Convergence Society in which man and technology will merge and ensure balanced coexistence with the natural environment requires individuals to have a fundamentally different approach to understanding the world around them and, consequently, continuous learning given rapid technological progress.

At the level of each individual, cultural change implies observing the world around us in cycles and continuously looking at all phases of the life cycle of various products and services. This is not an easy task because the world around us is becoming more complex, and future jobs are being created that require some new knowledge.

Multidisciplinary educational programs for the challenges of the future

Through various programs and connections of the academic community with the real sector, universities need to provide a sufficient number of experts who will participate in the revolution of the third millennium. To effectively manage the convergence process, it is necessary to introduce multidisciplinary programs, such as bridging any gap between different types of science - natural (physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, and space science), social (anthropology, economics, political science, geography, psychology, and sociology) and formal sciences (logic, mathematics, and statistics).

Science needs to be open, shared, and respected. As reality is complex, so is science. Therefore, terms such as intra-, inter-, multi- and trans-disciplinarity should be emphasized.

How JUSC contributes to education

JUSC, as a platform that connects stakeholders in the creation of the Convergence Society, works on a number of projects in a real environment on local territory. Innovation happens there, technology-based change that accompanies the creation of experts who can keep up with that development. JUSC therefore designs on-site educational programs that monitor the sustainable development of the territory. Education refers to the creation of new generations of experts, but also to the education of existing ones through various initiatives, studies, departments, and the like.

Through a strong network of international organizations, JUSC ensures the certification of experts and their connection to an international network of projects, providers and knowledge, based on which they can improve life in the local area and further share these experiences.

Main playground - local territory and smart cities

The multidisciplinary concept will be most beneficial for the convergence of society in cities. Namely, cities are a new space, a playground over the battlefield, for the distribution of global resources while the world's population is concentrated in cities.

The convergence of the virtual and the real will ensure the development of harmonious, sustainable solutions, which will enable adaptation and change as technology, people, and the physical environment evolve and affect them differently.

Theory without practice is just empty words, meaningless. Gaining new multidisciplinary knowledge is not limited to university premises. The real change takes place in a real environment, a laboratory in the territory, where participants can apply their acquired knowledge to specific projects and thus solve today's problems and develop new models.
